Our Great Outdoors!

Children take on the spider's web challenge
Whatever the Weather!

We are very lucky to have a wonderful environment for Outdoor Learning here at St. Peter’s. Our fantastic, well-established Outdoor Classroom (designed by David Yates, County Landscape Architect) is used on a regular basis by all children at the school throughout each term.

Regardless of the season we venture out to make the best use of the natural resources at our finger tips. We don’t just wait for the sun to shine, after all there is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes! With this in mind, it is particularly helpful if children have sufficient warm clothing during colder weather and sun hats and protection from warmer weather so that they are always able to take full advantage of any Outdoor Learning opportunities which may take place during the school day.
Lots of learning

Making picture frames from things from the woodland area.
Some of the activities which have taken place in the Outdoor Environment this year so far are: Sukkah building, making picture frames from natural materials, looking for patterns, collecting a variety of materials to make Fairy and Elf Islands, (specifically collecting items which could represent food or could act as shelter), and leaf collecting for making repeating patterns and close observation.
Outdoor learning is used to engage with a wide variety of subjects in our curriculum with Science, Maths, RE and Art to name but a few. Children in Class 3 used their senses to explore their outdoor environment in order to inspire some wonderful poetry last term.
